When a loved one has to go into a nursing home or passes away it is a difficult time. When you also have to make decisions about their possessions it can be even harder. Likewise when moving, downsizing, or just cleaning, there are things you probably want to get rid of. Instead of throwing out old papers that you consider trash, consider donating them to the historical society. You know what they say “One man’s trash is another’s treasure”. Much is the case with their collection.
The Jackson Township Historical Society (JTHS) has received several pieces from multiple families who wanted to get rid of items and papers. They are grateful that people considered to donate these items. Some artifacts that have been donated are old toys, family bibles, pictures, programs from school and church events, clothing, annuals/yearbooks, a scrapbook, local newspapers, information pertaining to old farms in Jackson, and a diary. Many of these artifacts may be considered trash, but to the JTHS, it is historical information about the life and times of Jackson. Please consider donating unwanted programs, pictures, and other information to JTHS. These artifacts tell the story of Jackson Township, the schools and its people.
Remember yesterday is history, so we even take “current” information.
